Following on from the programme of restoration and rehabilitation of Saint Barbara’s Church and its heritage assets, which began in stages in 2017, this year of 2024 will focus particularly on the issue of lighting. The church’s interior lighting system, which dates to the 1960s, is now completely obsolete, both in terms of safety and usability.<\/p>\n\n

The first stage will take place on Wednesday 27 March, with trials of the new lighting with the architects and lighting designer.<\/strong> The church’s central chandelier will be removed beforehand for restoration. It will be replaced by a temporary light fitting for the duration of the work.<\/p>\n\n

From 12.30pm and for the rest of the day, for safety reasons, the garden and church will be closed to the public to allow for the delivery of a gondola and equipment, as well as for preparations in the church and tests to be carried out.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Any vehicles parked in the garden will have to be evacuated. Access to the garden and church will resume at 5pm on Thursday 28 March. <\/strong>The parish would like to thank its friends and visitors for their understanding regarding the exceptional closure of the church on a Wednesday afternoon and looks forward to welcoming them soon in better conditions.<\/p>\n\n
