Cleaning the sanctuary’s painted decorations

Work to illuminate the church is continuing. The sanctuary will now be restored to its original colours.

The first phase of the restoration will involve cleaning the vaults and the painted decoration. During this initial stage, scheduled for 2025, the dusty and filthy deposits that have accumulated on the vaults over the last half-century will be removed. However, for financial reasons, the complete restoration of the sanctuary’s vaults is not planned for 2025.

Cleaning work on the vaults in the sanctuary will be carried out by a qualified restorer from the Sinopie workshop in Vevey. This painstaking operation will involve removing the thick layer of blackish deposit that has formed on the surface, to restore the original colours and motifs to their former glory.

This work will be carried out from the end of February for an estimated period of 3 months, every day of the week from Monday to Friday, with the exception of days when a church service falls on a weekday.

These cleanings will also enable us to better identify any damage, cracks or salt build-up, so that we can determine how they should be treated in the future.

Your donations are always welcome at this link to help us fund the complete restoration of the sanctuary and other work needed to revitalise Saint Barbara’s church. Thank you very much for your generous support!
